ISIS EUROPA

ISIS "EUROPA" of Pomigliano d'Arco from the academic year 2010/11 has been revised according the School reform occured. It became Higher Institute of State Education, whose training offer is: Technical Institute with the following specializations: "Tourism", “Graphic and web design" and vocational as the following ones"Health- care Service” and “Commercial Services". It includes about 1372 students, 200 teachers and 40 employees among administrative and staff.
ISIS Europa is leader in the Educational Avant-garde INDIRE, a movement of innovation that leads to the system experiences of good practices in the production of digital educational content. Since last school year ISIS Europa met Harvard Graduate School of Education because our school has been chosen from INDIRE to take part in a pilot project –Project Zero - “MLTV” “Making Learning Thinking Visible” together with two schools in Italy. Project Zero has its origin at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
ISIS Europa has 4 school complexes all supplied with wifi and fiber optic connections, where there are several laboratories: physics, chemistry, computer science, science, language, graphics. In addition all classrooms are equipped with projectors, Interactive Boards and PC. ISIS Europa is experiencing for many years activities to develop new methodologies to foster learning achievement, to refurbish its formal learning and evaluative activities. Revision starting points have been activities linked to vocational subjects area, pertaining to Vocational schools and work-based projects (European Projects funded – PON), both have encouraged the adoption of lab teaching strategies in order to set up schooling and learning path to enhance students creativity. The final product, (artifact, graphic design, video, text, etc.) that each student has to accomplish at the end of each school year allows him to test, take on a role and identify himself with that role, which makes knowledge less abstract and distant. All the disciplines, in fact, are involved in the process of compiling training paths that are primarily aimed at developing a focus competence, chosen among the European key competences, interconnecting the contributions each of them can provide the building of axis or areas competences. Outline and constant use of social and digital learning tools inside and outside classes is crucial in order to get students deeply involved in learning process, (for example our website, our web learning platform and our App so that everyone can be informed in real time about the school news and activities). So, it’s easy to search, share, create didactic contents and make them available to both teachers and students. In addition teachers can adopt evaluation tools able to test knowledge and skills and even the cognitive and metacognitive processes that each student enacts to face real "situation -problem " to solve. The class and its inner activities are thus somehow "flipped", as class is no longer a place for the transmission of notions but a work and debate space where each one learns to use the research outcomes and products deconstructing and reconstructing them in a peer to peer context scaffolded by teachers; a real gym for mind! Projects such as "Pills of knowledge" and "Classrooms at an exhibition", countless award-winning in Italy and abroad, have seen our students becoming enthusiastic protagonists, actively involved and extremely motivated in the production of the highest quality level artifacts, having succeeded to appreciate their learning potential beyond their own expectations. Finally, this approach helps teachers in reorganizing and optimizing the distribution of cognitive load for each student, which is therefore more likely to enhance his strengths, gain awareness of his limits so he could face and overcome them, and directly handle his learning process, achieving a concrete improvement in training outcomes and self-awareness.
The school proposes multidisciplinary courses coherent with the specialization and local needs. They arise from the renewal of teaching-learning of all disciplines to stimulate and motivate pupils. The Institute has been adopting:
* "didactics for skills" for years because students learn better when they build their knowledge actively in established situations
* digital teaching in classes with the use of e-books, tablets, smartshops, etc. All use and share digital educational content on platforms: EDMODO, WE School.
